Retro Comforts In Shoreditch – A Student’s Tale
When I moved to Shoreditch I had nothing but a mattress. The windows rattled in the wind, cool armchairs but we filled it with life. IKEA lasts a term at best, so we hunted retro. Another dragged a chair from Camden. Everything mismatched, but that’s what made it real. Old accent chairs for living room leather carry memory, and it doesn’t matter if it’s scratched. I’ve crashed into a leather sofa after a night out, and the chairs became mates.
Shoreditch is perfect for this life, and Smithers down in Shoreditch knows it. My flatmate dragged me into Smithers, and the place was full of funky retro chairs. money was tight, contemporary leather armchair but it’s become the throne of the house. We’ve all dragged furniture through rain. it’s half the fun. Furniture with scars feels built for students. Brand-new looks boring, but old sofas age into character. every creak is another laugh.
Once the parties are done, the cracked window gets forgotten, but that funky accent chair is legend. If you find yourself in a Shoreditch flat, leave the glossy showrooms behind. Take home something with scars, and let it carry your student nights.
