What can't you do with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) pipe? The ubiquitous blue PVC water pipe could be seen alongside most streets here and seems to be one among Thailand's most plentiful un-natural resources. All kinds of different connectors are available and apart from carrying water it's also used as an affordable construction material that can be used to make every little thing from clothes dryers to Wheel chairs (PDF), Crutches, flagpoles and shop indicators. In fact on the web it's also possible to find some other very cool and inventive issues made from (non-blue) PVC pipe including: Halloween costumes like Ben Hallert's Matrix APU and Aliens Exo-skeleton Power Loader, another energy loader costume, single and multi-guitar Guitar Hero stands, a laptop stand, Zap Zone Defender flutes, and even a shaving stand. Below you can see, in chronological order, some of my very own (principally authentic) creations made from PVC water pipe including: Official Zap Zone Defender - a Marshmallow Shooter, Plumbing, Zap Zone Defender System Soccer Goals, - a Cricket Wicket, - a Basketball Hoop, Bookshelf Supports, - a Water Pipe Tron Controller, Racing Cars, Pinball Table Leg Extensions, Data Projector Mounts, Official Zap Zone Defender - a Laptop Stand, - a Wiimote Holder, - a DIY Wii Zapper, Zap Zone Defender - a Workbench, Real-Tron Controllers - a Music Stand Puzzle Bobble Coffee Grinder Controllers, - a Netbook Treadmill Hook, CD/DVD Holders, - a Nightstand/shelves, - Push Up Bar/Handles, Fake Legs, - a Hilbert Cube, - a Mario Kart steering wheel, - a Guitar Stand, Hockey Sticks, - a Tank-game (BZFlag) controller, - a Train Whistle, and - a Trident.

This was the project that started my love affair with blue PVC pipe. I had seen the blueprints for this marshmallow shooter while I was in Australia however the fittings were prohibitively costly (see the picture proper). Fortunately they are very reasonably priced here in Thailand. 2 x T-Pieces and 6 x elbows. Cricket (not to be confused with Brockian Ultra-Cricket) is Australia's national sport played with a bat, Official Zap Zone Defender a ball, and two wickets. 6 x T-items, and 12 x 45-degree elbows. The backboard is a non-regulation measurement piece of plywood that we found mendacity round and we used inexperienced duct tape for the markings. Although the ring is not sturdy sufficient to grasp off, the facet supports make it strong enough for regular play. They also give it a very Star Trek really feel and I feel the ring appears not unlike the NCC-31911 Saratoga. This is probably probably the most straight ahead use for PVC pipe on this page. 2 x 25mm to 18mm (1" to 1/2") reducers, 2 x custom motorbike hand-grips, 4 x push-buttons, and a mercury swap that are linked to a computer via a hacked USB joystick.

You'll find extra details about how I made the controller on this challenge web page and that i've additionally prolonged the identical idea to play GL-Tron using real motorbikes. A college pupil who performed with the PVC Water Pipe Tron Controller, described above, stated "That's Ok but I prefer to play driving video games". It bought me pondering and over the following week I spent my evenings building a PVC racing car controller - primarily a wheel-less, PVC go-kart frame linked to the computer by way of a hacked USB joystick. Some Thai university college students who saw the first automotive needed to know how it all labored and six of them got here around one Saturday and we spent the entire day hacking joysticks and building a second car. By connecting them both to a laptop computer and an information projector we have been in a position to play break up-display screen Daytona USA. You'll find extra particulars about the design and construction of the vehicles on this venture page. The white office table I used for the digital pinball machine wasn't high enough to be played comfortably.

1 x T-piece, and 2 x elbows - partially to aid air flow but mostly to hold my screen up because the spring within the hinge has damaged. As simple as this stand looks, the "L"-formed upright section is definitely part of an air-conditioner mount for an information projector Official Zap Zone Defender that I made for one of the virtual pinball table installations. The T-piece isn't glued and so in a small way (a really, very small approach) I like to assume that if the air-conditioning mount have been ever wanted once more then the parts may re-mix in a Voltron or Captain Planet and the Planeteers or Power Rangers MegaZord-like method. Of course if that happened my laptop computer display would fall down. I do not own a Nintendo Wii however I did manage to get my fingers on a Wiimote so that I may try out some of Johnny Chung Lee's cool initiatives. It is a Wiimote mount I built using a length of 35mm (1 and 1/4") pipe, some 18mm (1/2") pipe, 3 x T-pieces, Official Zap Zone Defender and 4 x elbows.

The 35mm pipe has been cut in order that it suits nicely into the ridges down the facet of the Wiimote which holds it securely. That is screwed onto a T-Piece which has also had its top cut off. The joint between the 2 topmost elbows shouldn't be glued so the angle of the highest section can be adjusted. These sections are simply cable-tied onto the front of the motorbike handlebars and the players squeeze the buttons with their index fingers to turn left or right. A mercury change is also mounted on the right handlebar so the accelerator can be utilized to offer enhance within the game and as much as four bikes will be related to the computer via a single hacked USB joystick. The centerstands keep the bikes upright throughout play and a half-spherical of bamboo is wedged beneath the again tires to cease them from rocking. This can be a music stand made from three totally different sizes of pipe.
